The Project
Strait View Credit Union was chartered in 1953 to serve employees of the Alaska Electric Light and Power Company. Over seven decades, it grew into a community credit union serving 7,000+ members across Juneau, Alaska — the only U.S. state capital you can't drive to. No highway connects Juneau to the rest of Alaska or the Lower 48. Members get here by ferry or by plane. That geography shapes everything about how Strait View serves its community.
When your nearest out-of-town branch is a 90-minute ferry ride or a flight away, digital isn't a nice-to-have — it's the primary service channel. Strait View's previous website couldn't carry that weight. Loan applications required phone calls. Membership forms weren't online. Rate information went stale. Members who needed to skip a payment or shop for a vehicle had no digital path. The website described a credit union but didn't let members do anything with it.
Avtec rebuilt the site around self-service. MeridianLink handles online lending — auto loans, personal loans, mortgages, and home equity — so members apply from home, from a fishing boat, or from anywhere with a signal.
